TurnPeaceAround started with a few simple thoughts

Simply, it’s time for a new awareness of peace, of what could be. Time for optimism, a new way, even utopian thinking. Why not?

It’s time to drop the tired war and battle metaphors. Time to realize that every conflict is eventually resolved by talking. How many times have you heard references to “peace talks”? So, why not skip the war and start with the talking?

If this feels right to you, then you can help TurnPeaceAround

Every movement starts with a simple idea that spreads. And so we hope that you will help us spread the idea behind TurnPeaceAround.

Every individual counts. What you do matters. You can change your outlook and soon you’ve changed your life. And then, who knows, you could change the world. You can talk to people, you can lead by example, you can make a difference. You can help TurnPeaceAround.

Why the upside down peace symbol?

We believe that the peace symbol should have the “arms” up. In ancient runes arms are raised up to receive. They are a symbol of life. When they are dropped down, they are a symbol of death.

Until now, we’ve had a symbol for “the death of man and the unborn child”

The original peace symbol was designed in 1958 by Gerald Holtom in Great Britain for the campaign for nuclear disarmament. In the 60’s it made its way to the U.S. and around the world. Many of us adopted it without knowing much about it.

After Holtom designed his symbol, he wrote to a friend, “I was in despair. Deep despair. I drew myself: the representative of an individual in despair, with hands palm outstretched outwards and downwards in the manner of Goya’s peasant before the firing squad. I formalised the drawing into a line and put a circle round it.” The original sketches show a symbol that stood for “the death of man and the unborn child”.

How inspiring is that for peace? It’s time for a higher vibration. It’s time to TurnPeaceAround. You can start to TurnPeaceAround right here.

Symbols are powerful. So, be the symbol. Raise your arms up and you are surrounded by the circle of the earth.

About TurnPeaceAround explains why it's so important to give the peace symbol a much more positive vibration.
