What can you do to help TurnPeaceAround?

Here are a few things to think about:

Meditate

In addition to clearing your mind and helping you re-focus, by default, you also become part of a group of people who meditate. Why does this matter?

Studies have tested the theories of the positive impacts of meditation in society. According to The Intention Experiment by Lynne McTaggart, whenever a city reaches a point where 1% of the population regularly meditates, crime rates go down by up to 24%  (see page 182).

Organize communal meals

Slow down, get away from your computers, cell phones and other devices and take the time to prepare fresh food and eat as a group. It doesn’t have to be an event, just a group of people getting together over food. Invite neighbors. Meals are also the perfect time to talk about how you can help create a more peaceful world, how you can encourage each other and reach out to more people.

Use the strength of weak ties

In 1973, Professor Mark S. Granovetter wrote a paper called The Strength of Weak Ties. In general, this paper refers the to types of connections people have with one another. Strong ties are the groups that consist of your close friends and families. Weak ties are loose groups such as your casual acquaintances, friends of friends, many of your Facebook “friends” and people who share your interests, but you probably don’t know very well.

Boiled down, Granovetter’s central thesis is that information can travel further and faster when passed among weak ties. When it is shared only among strong ties, it soon peters out, because any one person has a finite number of close friends. For the information to spread further, it has to “jump” out of any group and be spread through weak ties.

So, put your weak ties to work. Help TurnPeaceAround through the power of Facebook, MySpace, blogs, Twitter, forums etc.

About TurnPeaceAround explains why it's so important to give the peace symbol a much more positive vibration.
